The Ultimate Weekend Travel Guide to Savannah Georgia – Simply Taralynn
Where to Eat / Where to Stay / What to do.
It’s currently 8 am, pouring down rain, I had a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast, and I’m on my second cup of coffee. To top off this perfect morning, I get to spend the next few hours writing all about our third trip to Savannah, Georgia. As I was putting the photos together for this blog, I dreamed of diving into the screen to live it all over again. And don’t worry, I made this travel guide more of a recap style as most of you requested! 😊
One of the reasons we visit Savannah every year is because it holds a special place in our hearts. It was the first place we ever visited together, and every time we leave, we’re eager to get back. We love staying in new bed & breakfasts, trying new restaurants (& returning to our favorites), and no matter how many walks we do around the city, it never gets tainted with time. Instead, it somehow gets more beautiful. The people of Savannah are another reason we continue to come back. If you’re looking to experience real Southern hospitality and charm, you’ll find that here in Savannah.
As you all know, taking photos is one of my favorite things to do while traveling. I hope you have poured yourself a cup of coffee because this travel blog is a bit lengthy. I couldn’t help but capture all of the beautiful moments so I could bring them back to you! After reading this, I hope you feel like you were there with me, or at least feel inspired to make a trip for yourself.
I love doing giveaways to share a piece of my trip with my readers! I have two giveaways hidden in this post 😊 Continue reading to find out what they are!
Savannah is about a three and half hour drive away from Charlotte. After dropping the dogs off with my parents, we headed on our way. We hoped to get there in the afternoon so we could pick up our bike rentals and grab lunch at Fox & Fig Cafe. We made it to our Bed and Breakfast, The Eliza Thompson House around noon.
ELIZA THOMPSON HOUSE BED & BREAKFAST
The Eliza Thompson House Bed & Breakfast was built in 1847. We chose this inn because it was a walkable distance to just about everything. The city of Savannah is rather small, so you can get to where you need to be within a 2-3 mile radius. The Eliza Thompson House was one of the first homes to ever be constructed on Jones Street, one of the most famous and beautiful streets in Savannah. It still has it’s original brick road, gorgeous oak trees that line the street, and the homes remain historic. The inn has rooms in the main house, and 13 guest bedrooms in the carriage house. We stayed in the Garden Queen, which overlooked the courtyard. When you walked out of our door, we were greeted with the sounds of the fountain, views of the main house, and one of my favorite parts was watching the sunset as it beamed through the Spanish moss making it glow like a lamp. I have included more photos from our stay at the Eliza Thompson House further in the blog.
WHERE TO STAY
One of our goals is to stay at all the bed and breakfasts in Savannah. So far, we’ve stayed in the following:
⭐️ Eliza Thompson House
⭐️ The Ballastone Inn
⭐️ Hamilton-Turner Inn
⭐️Riverstreet Inn
⭐️Presidential Quarters Inn
Our room wasn’t ready yet, so we walked to the bike shop to grab our rentals. I highly recommend renting a bike if you’re visiting Savannah. There are so many places to lock it up, and it’s the best way to tour the city, in my opinion. There is a bike shop right next to Leopold’s ice cream called Sekka Bikes, and a bike shop called Savannah on Wheels. It’s best to reserve your bikes before your trip! We stored our bikes at our bed and breakfast during the nights.
SAVANNAH BIKE RENTALS

LEOPOLD’S ICE CREAM
After a very long bike ride around Savannah, we were craving a cold treat. I had so many readers tell me that I needed to go to Leopold’s Ice Cream! I never got around to it before because I didn’t want to wait in the line that wrapped around the building, and I also figured I wouldn’t be able to eat any of it because I can’t have dairy. When I saw that they did vegan flavors of the month along with their vegan vanilla, I couldn’t wait! We decided to ride our bikes over to Leopold’s for an afternoon treat. The line was long, but not as long as it is in the evenings.
We stood out in the 100 + degree heat for about 45-minutes before getting into the door. The workers came outside every ten minutes with ice water for the waiting customers, which was so kind of them! When a line is that long in the middle of the day, you know you’re in for a real treat! Leopold’s ice cream has been around since 1919! Three brothers from Greece opened it, and their same secret formula for ice cream hasn’t changed since. There is a wall of fame inside with all of the celebrities who have enjoyed ice cream there. If you want to try Leopold’s Ice Cream, but know you won’t be in Savannah anytime soon, you can order their ice cream pints online and have it shipped to your house. How awesome is that?
The vegan flavor of the month was strawberry. I’ve never been a big strawberry ice cream person, but it sounded refreshing. I ordered a single scoop of strawberry along with a single scoop of their vanilla. Of course, no ice cream is complete without sprinkles! Kyle ordered a rootbeer float with their vegan vanilla for his treat.
VEGAN ICE CREAM VERDICT
The verdict? YUM! It was unlike any vegan ice cream I have ever had before. I almost wanted to go up and ask them if they made a mistake and gave me dairy ice cream instead. It was creamy, fluffy, and the flavors were mouthwatering. I immediately converted into a strawberry ice cream lover after the first bite. If the lines weren’t so long, I would have gone back for more!

I will be sending one lucky reader a pint of vegan ice cream from Leopold’s! – entry details at the bottom of this post!
Kyle and I were so hungry by 3:30 pm! Luckily, it’s OK to have ice cream before dinner when you’re an adult on vacation. I have been craving Fox & Fig Cafe since our last trip to Savannah. I’m telling you, this place is worth going to over and over again.
FOX & FIG CAFE
Fox & Fig Cafe is 100% plant-based but will please any type of eater. They have a creative breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert menu along with a full espresso bar. I can confirm that their coffee is incredible, and their desserts are unreal. We went a little overboard on our last trip there, but it was worth it. Not only is the food delicious, but the restaurant is adorable. I love the atmosphere, and when it’s not extremely hot outside, you can enjoy the outdoor seating. It’s on a cozy street with beautiful views of historic Savannah. The next time I visit, I’ll be trying out their breakfast menu.
It’s hard to decide what to get, so I ended up ordering two options in hopes that Kyle would help me eat my leftovers!
WHAT I ORDERED AT FOX & FIG CAFE
I first ordered “The Salad.” It came with top-shelf salad mix, avocado green goddess dressing, golden beets, roasted pistachios, pan-fried shallots, toasted hemp seeds, and a cashew-cheese crumble. It turns out; I didn’t need Kyle to help me eat any of it! That salad didn’t stand a chance after the first bite. Every bite was a flavorful masterpiece.
Next, I ordered the Tostadas Verde. It had gluten-free toasted topped with key lime avocado mash, foxy salsa, pickled red onion, chia seeds hemp seeds, and pumpkin seeds. The original order comes with ciabatta bread from Auspicious Baking Co.
Kyle ordered the Fox Burger. We had this last time and already knew it was a winner. It comes with a beyond burger patty, caramelized onions, arugula, agave-dijon sauce, and a pretzel bun. Kyle also had gluten-free bread as a replacement. No matter what you order, YOU HAVE TO GET the Voodoo Chips. They are unreal.
I was so full but had to try a small dessert before leaving. I ordered a little hazelnut chocolate truffled coated in toasted coconut. It was the most heavenly fudgy tasting dessert ever! It tasted like a rich Nutella ganache. It was the perfect treat to top off dinner.
After having a meal at Fox & Fig Cafe, we rode our bikes down to Riverstreet.
TANDEM COFFEE & SPIRITS
We headed into Tandem Coffee and Spirits for coffee, but when I saw the person next to me order a blackberry mojito, I knew I wanted one too! It looked super refreshing, and it wouldn’t keep me up all night the way coffee does. The blackberry mojito comes with Don Q Rum, soda, water, sugar, mint leaves, and blackberriesTandem Coffee & Spirits is a trendy bar attached to the East Bay Inn. I loved how bright and airy the decor was. I’m not sure if you already knew this, but there is no open container law in Savannah, and I think that’s why a lot of people choose this city for their bachelor/bachelorette parties. You can hop into a bar and have them make you a fun cocktail that you can take with you for a walk around the city. I think that’s pretty cool, but since it was so hot, we enjoyed the drink inside!
We rode our bikes back to our Bed and Breakfast to take a quick shower, 30-minute nap, and get ready for the cocktail hour in the parlor. Most bed and breakfast offer appetizers and wine around 5 pm, and dessert hour later in the evening. It’s fun to chat with other visitors from around the world. If you plan on visiting Savannah, definitely skip the hotels, and go straight for a B&B.
We enjoyed a glass of wine outside as we watched the people walk down Jones Street. Thank goodness the temperatures start to drop during the evenings, but it’s still incredibly humid. My hair didn’t stand a chance, so I towel dried it and added my Aveda Smooth Infusion and Kristin Ess Weightless Shine Gloss to control the frizz. Those are my magic weapons when it comes to hair defense!
We decided to walk down to Riverstreet to catch the sunset and shop a few of the local stores. Riverstreet has a lot of restaurants that overlook the water during sunset, and they even have dinner cruises you can go on. Along the river, musicians are playing, markets filled with crafts, and all kinds of spots to grab an ice cream cone and coffee.
WALKING RIVERSTREET
dress/ shoes/ backpack
On the way back to the Bed and Breakfast, we stopped at the City Market to listen to more live music. We stopped into a shop to grab pralines to bring back to my parents.
PRALINES & LIVE MUSIC AT THE CITY MARKET
Pralines are made with butter, heavy cream, sugar, sea salt, and pecans!
I had a couple of sips of decaf coffee when we got back to the bed, and breakfast while Kyle had some dessert. After a long day of traveling and exploring Savannah, I was ready to shower off and fall asleep. I planned on getting up bright and early to get ready for a morning without the heat!
After getting ready for the day, Kyle and I headed down to the courtyard for breakfast.
Enjoying a coffee while listening to the fountains and the morning birds were one of the most relaxing parts of the trip. The breakfast bar had eggs, fresh fruit, pancakes, granola, yogurt, toast, grits, and pretty much everything you could ever want! I had a bowl of fruit with granola and a side of potatoes and a sausage link.
After breakfast, we hopped in the car and took a short drive to the Wormloe Historic Site. Wormsloe is a must-stop if you’re taking a trip to Tybee Island to see the lighthouse.
WORMSLOE HISTORIC SITE
The drive will take your breath away. It costs $10 to get in, but I promise you it’s worth it. Have you ever seen the movie The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks? You may recognize this spot because it’s the road where they filmed the scene with Miley Cyrus heading to Liam’s “house!”
blouse / necklace / shoes / hat / shorts
We spent some time walking through the Oak trees filled with Spanish moss, and then made our way to the little museum to read about the historic site. It’s best to go as early as you can because it’ll be less hot and less crowded!
After spending the morning at the Wormsloe Historic Site, we headed back to grab our bikes and head out for a filling brunch!
BRUNCH AT THE GROVE
We hopped into The Grove for brunch! We got in perfect timing because we got seated right away, but a few minutes later, the brunch crowd came rushing in. The Grove has a rooftop bar that looks pretty awesome! After eating here on a whim, I was really impressed. If I were you, I’d add this to your brunch spots on your next trip to Savannah, and do not forget to add in a mimosa while you wait on your food.
I ordered the veggie burger. It came with guacamole, arugula, tomatoes, and I had them do extra lettuce instead of the bun. Oh, and the french fries were perfectly cooked and extra crispy! Kyle ordered the grilled chicken salad. I tried their honey mustard dressing, and it was so good! – yes, the honey mustard was noteworthy!
After breakfast, we headed down to Broughton street to walk into the local shops. If you’re looking for a pleasant shopping day, this is where all the stores are! And don’t forget to walk down the side streets because they have some adorable boutiques on them.
FORSYTH PARK
We took the bikes down to road around Forsyth Park to ride around. Whenever I think of Savannah, I think of the gorgeous fountain on all of the brochures and postcards. Forsyth Park is where their picture-perfect fountain is located! On Saturday’s they have farmer’s markets, and we love playing tennis there!
I was SO ready for my afternoon pick-me-up.
THE COFFEE FOX
We went to The Coffee Fox for an iced coffee and to split a gluten-free, vegan blueberry muffin. We stopped in here during our first visit to Savannah three years ago. I loved it then, and I love it even more now! I picked up their energy balls and extra blueberry muffins to have in the room before my Monday morning run. I was expecting them to be pretty good, but they were beyond that! It’s a good thing I don’t live in Savannah because I’d be eating those muffins every single day. The iced coffee was out of this world!
⭐️ giveaway #2
I will send one lucky reader a Coffee Fox Mug + a bag of Perc Coffee beans! – entry details at the end of this blog!
We spent the majority of the day biking around Savannah. I don’t know what it is about bikes, but they make you feel like a kid again. Plus, they are the best way to see the city!
OTHER PLACES WE LOVE IN SAVANNAH!
⭐️ Tubby’s Seafood Restaurant
⭐️ Vic’s Coffee House
⭐️ B. Matthew’s Eatery
⭐️ Cafe M.
⭐️ Tybee Island Lighthouse
⭐️ 80 East Gastropub Tybee Island
⭐️ Garibaldi (YUM)
⭐️ Kayak Kafe
⭐️ Zunzi’s (a staple)
⭐️ Soho South
⭐️ The Fitzroy
⭐️ Chabella
One of my favorite places to visit is the Paris Market. It’s one of the most luxurious places you’ll visit on Broughton Street! Three years ago, I took Kyle here to try his first macaroon!
THE PARIS MARKET
The store is a Parisian-style market filled with whimsical and unique treasures. I’m so excited about the bejeweled headband, and I bought it there over the weekend. The store has two levels. The first level has a cafe with pretty desserts and coffee, as well as unique products like jewelry, soaps, bags, books, and so much more! The lower level is filled with the most elegant and luxurious home decor. If you’re a food photographer, it’ll be your heaven!
Remember the dinner I raved about at Collin’s Quarter during our last trip? Well, we HAD to go back and experience it again.
COLLIN’S QUARTER
Around 5 pm, we hopped into Collin’s Quarter and grabbed a seat at the bar. There was no way we’d get a reservation this late, but I think bar seating is better sometimes. Plus, we met the nicest ladies and chatted with them the whole time!
I ordered the “Perfect Fit” because it was legit the perfect fit 😉 How refreshing after spending the entire day outside in the sun! This drink had St-Germain, Cocchi Rosa, Sparkling Rosé, Lemon. I want to recreate this drink at home because it was amazing!
Kyle went with the hot honey chicken like the last time, and it was just as good as we remembered. The only difference was the sauce! They changed it up, and it was still good, but I prefer the other sauce better. I had their seared salmon with salad and green beans! So tasty! 😋
After dinner, we headed to the bike shop to drop off our rentals. We figured we’d get it out of the way, so we didn’t have to worry about doing it in the morning. Plus, walking the streets as the sun went down was a sight to remember.
The one thing about being in Savannah is that you’ll be showering like five times a day because of how much you sweat! Around 8:30 pm, we headed down to the parlor for desserts and to get ready for the Ghost Tour!
GHOSTS & GRAVESTONE GHOST TOUR
Taking a ghost tour is such a fun and relaxing way to end the night! If you’re looking for casual plans to add to your itinerary, a ghost tour is it! You’ll hop on a trolley and drive around the most haunted spots in Savannah. It’s a great way to learn more about Savannah’s history, and I’m obsessed with anything spooky! The guides were hilarious!
shorts / shoes / tank / open sweater
SAVANNAH TROLLEY TOURS
I can’t believe we had been to Savannah so often but never road the trolley. Honestly, it’s a must! This is the best way to get around the town for 24-hours, and you’ll learn so much about the history of the city. I really enjoyed it! Ask your bed and breakfast for their trolley discounts and ours even booked our ride!
I was up at 5 am on Monday.
I had my pre-workout, and headed out for a five-mile run around the city! Even though it was still humid, it was one of my favorite runs ever! Oh, goodness, I am so obsessed with Savannah.
RUNNING IN SAVANNAH GEORGIA
After my run, I showered off AGAIN, got back into my pajamas, and then grabbed a cup of coffee and breakfast in the courtyard. Now, that is how I want to end every morning workout.
Pj bottoms / Pj Top
Remember when I said that the muffins were to die for? Well, we stopped back into The Coffee Fox on our way home and bought all of the muffins they had left! This time, it was their cranberry orange muffins. Ohhhh and they were delicious. I need to come up with a recipe to hold me over until I can get back to have more. I also grabbed an extra coffee for the trip home ♥️

I’ve never been to Savannah but it’s on my list! I live in the Northeast and for some reason unless we go out of country most of our trips are more north instead of south!
Coffee is my love language so I love trying coffee shops and cafes in any new city. So #2 for me!!! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Well the north is equally beautiful 😊
We most definitely have that same love language 😆

I like to have a plan when visiting a new place but I also like to see where the adventure leads us. I love sightseeing, learning about the history of the city, being in nature, and drinking good ice coffee.
My husband and I visit Colorado most often because we recently got married in Colorado so it’s a special place in our journey. 💕

Never have been to Savannah, but it’s definitely on my list to travel to! I loved reading about your visit, it makes me want to go there even more. My favorite part of traveling is the food. The pralines when I last visited New Orleans was amazing and a favorite treat of mine. There’s so many places my husband and I want to visit, but right now we’re trying to get our youngest kiddo potty trained so we can make our first big family trip to Disneyland. We hope that becomes somewhat of a regular for our family. We love Disney! #1

I love savannah so much! It’s one of my favs. My favorite part of going to a new city is exploring it like a local. Walking around and seeing all there is to see.

Hi!
When I was growing up, my dad was stationed in Beaufort, SC, so we’d go to Savannah a lot but I just went back for the first time since probably the 90’s last week and it was so amazing. It was only for a day and a half but we got to see so much stuff! I even went to the Collins Quarter for breakfast and OMG yum!
Whenever I visit a new place I always try to find somewhere all the locals go or a hole in the wall place. Makes me feel like I live there!
I think Washington D.C. is one of those places I can go to again and again. There’s so much to do and I never feel like I can get it all done in one trip.
#1 🍦 I saw Leopold’s while I was there but it was so hot I didn’t want to stand in the sun waiting 😆
Taralynn McNitt says
Ahh how cool! Beaufort is gorgeous! OK I’ll have to go to CQ for breakfast next time!!
TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT D.C.!!!
HAHA it’s worth the wait, but totally understandable!

Hey! So funny thing is I’ve never been to Savannah (or what I can remember) but I am actually heading there TOMORROW and this read caught my attention quickly! I am so excited to add some of these stops to the trip! My favorite thing about a new city is just making new memories, exploring and making new traditions. MY go to for vacation is Ft Myers Florida (just north of key west) and my family and I have created memories and traditions to fill a whole book, yet a whole library! Been going since my mom was pregnant with me and stay at my grandparents beach house. My goal this summer was “adventure” and see what the world’s beauty is all about, aside from my hometown, Knoxville!
Any prize just wanted to share a little bit!
Taralynn McNitt says
OMG YES!! I hope you enjoy it. Please come back and let me know how it goes!!!
I love your goal for this summer! 😊

I have never visited Savannah but have always wanted to. It looks so charming! One of my favorite ways to explore any city and really get to know it is either by foot or by taking public transportation. If you don’t have to rent a car or drive at all while you’re in the new city I swear you’ll learn and see so much more.

I also live in Savannah (for the past three years) and there’s still so much that amazes me and makes me love this city more and more. This blog in particular, I loved seeing the places you visited and the places you stayed. I told my boyfriend this year I want to do a “stay-cation” in Savannah, so we can explore the city more!

1. I’ve never been to Savanah, but after reading your travel guides on it I want to go so badly! I am hoping to visit for my 5th wedding anniversary.
2. My favorite part of visiting a new city is going on a guided tour. I like to take a tour the first or second day we are in a new city because the tour guides share so many hidden gems that are easy to add to your itinerary.
3. Ourary, Colorado! This was the first place my husband and I went camping and it was magical. It is the cutest town that is snuggled into the mountains and has the best hot springs. We try to go at least once a year even if its only for a quick day trip.
Taralynn McNitt says
It’s such a romantic spot to go! Perfect for an anniversary! 😊
Ohhhh I’ll have to look into that spot!!!

Hard decision but I currently have enough coffee for a while. So it’ll have to be #1. Savannah is one of my favorite places to go and there are a few places in this post that I have yet to visit. Another good reason for going back! My favorite thing about Savannah is the Spanish moss. I visit Savannah and Gatlinburg both a good bit more than any other destination mainly because they are close.
Taralynn McNitt says
I hope you add some of those places when you come back!! I love the Spanish moss as well 😊 I told Kyle that in our next house, I’m throwing Spanish moss in the trees 😆

I have never been to Savannah but after reading all of your posts and hearing some of my friends talk about trips they have taken there it is definitely at the top of my list for future vacations.
My favorite part about visiting a new city is definitely exploring. I love finding hidden gems in places I have not been to before and walking around and seeing all that the new city has to offer.
One place that I try to visit as much as I can is definitely Europe. Although I have only been two times I think that any country there is beautiful. Everyone is always so friendly and I love experiences all of the different cultures and meeting different people.

Hello!
I have been following your blog since 2013 and look forward to all of your travel posts! Last year, I planned a trip to Charlotte, Charleston, and Savannah for my mom and I after reading all your blogs. it was the most amazing trip ever and we still talk about how much fun we had every time we see each other 🙂 I basically used your blogs to put together our itinerary. So thank you!
So to answer your question, yes I have been to Savannah and it is the most magical place I’ve been.
I am currently in San Diego and am so looking forward to your California road trip. My boyfriend is getting stationed in Hawaii and we are moving there in December and as scary as it sounds to leave my hometown of San Diego, reading your Hawaii blogs have gotten me so excited.
Enough rambling for me! #2 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Kalie!
Thank you so much 😃 I’m so so so happy that my blog helped you on your trips. You hit all the fun spots!
Glad you agree!!
I’m leaving in less than two weeks and I’m so so so excited to put that guide together!!
OMG! HOW FUN!! I’ll also be going back to Hawaii in NOV! You’re going to love it there! Which island? We were stationed in Oahu when we were kids. 😊
Kalie says
You are going to love the drive down the coast! We have been having the weirdest weather lately with rain (even though we need it), but hopefully it is a nice when you are here!
We will be in Oahu as well! I’ve only been to Maui and Kauai on family trips as a kid and I loved both of those islands, but I’m sure Oahu will be just as great!
That is awesome that you are going again in November though! I’ll be patiently waiting for that recap 🙂 We may have to island hop once we get there and explore the other islands as well after seeing your pictures!
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes hopefully we get the good weather!! Yes, you’ll love Oahu! Especially the north shore!
You MUST island hop!!!

I’ve only been to Savannah once before but LOVED it! By far the best part is being able to walk or bike everywhere and see such beautiful history. I always love trying local gems whenever traveling and Savannah does not let down. My favorite place to always revisit is Ludington, MI! The hiking and local coffee are unreal! Please enter me for Giveaway #2!

I’ve been to Savannah 6 or 7 times. I’ve done the Rock N Roll half marathon three times there because I love the city so much! Coffee Fox is one of my favorite spots for the vegan treats and iced coffee as well! Looking forward to trying Leopold’s now that I know they have vegan ice cream. We usually go to Ben and Jerry’s for theirs.

I go to Savannah a good bit. I live in Atlanta, so it’s about 3 and 1/2 hours from me as well. Every couple of months, we will get up super early and drive down just for the day. It’s surprisingly very doable. Going for the weekend is much more relaxing though. I’ve never tried a b&b, but now you’ve got me itching to check one out! (#1)
My favorite part about visiting a new city is the food! For sure! I plan out all my meals as best I can and am looking forward to them all day.
Thanks for sharing your fun weekend!

My favorite thing about visiting a new city if finding all the unique coffee shops that the locals rave about.
I would never ever pass up an opportunity to visit D.C.! Living in the midwest, it doesn’t happen very often, but it is still my most favorite city ever.
Love coffee, but your picture of the ice cream made my mouth water- so #1 for me 🙂

Savannah holds such a special place in our hearts! We honeymooned there which was our first visit. We have timed road trips to have brunch at Collins Quarter and I ran a half marathon on Skidaway Island.
When we visit a new place, we love asking the locals for their favorite spots. It’s so fun to get their perspective about their city!
We try to visit Savannah and Siesta Key in Florida as much as possible.

It looks like you had a great time!! I have never been to Savannah but it is definitely on my bucket list! I love walking around and exploring a new city and just stumbling upon things. You find the best stores, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. when you are not intentionally looking for them. In the last few years I have fallen in love with 2 different cities! I couple years ago I went to Portland, Maine to visit a friend and I loved every second of it! That friend has since moved to Wilmington, NC. I try to get there as often as I can. I love the people and the city! They have the cutest shops and amazing food! I cannot wait until I get to head back down there in August!
#1 or #2!! both sound amazing!

What is one place you try to visit as often as you can?
Nashville! I’m really not a big city type of person, but Nashville is so different. I love the atmosphere, the music, and the surrounding districts of the city. I’ve been every year for the last 4 years and I plan on keeping this a tradition.
I love coffee, but you have me convinced that Leopold’s ice cream is the best. #1 for me, please!

I have never been to Savannah, but after reading your guide it is now on my list! One of my favorite thing to do in a new city is to try out the local places whether it be food, coffee etc. That is one thing I love reading about on your blog! #1
Taralynn McNitt says
So happy it’s on your list now! It’s so important to include coffee spots! 😊
Marine says
Hi Taralynn,
Hope you’re having a good day ! Thanks for this great Savannah travel guide/recap post. I’m repeating myself but Savannah looks like a georgous city, with so many cute shop fronts and authentic architecture … Also, I really love your photos here, they look so bright and clear, especially those taken at the Wormsloc Historic Site (and the oak trees are just : wow !)
1. No, I’ve never been in Savannah, but your different articles about the city motivated me to check plane tickets France/Georgia for this summer, haha ! (unfortunetely, the prices were so high for that specific period that it was off-budget for my boyfriend and I). However, we wanted to go to the US so bad that we finally took our tickets for NYC !!!! We’ll be there mid-september for a 10 days stay, and we just can’t wait to discover the city !! It will also be my first time ever in the USA and I couldn’t be more excited !
2. My favorite part about visiting a new city is to take some time to relax and to enjoy a new way of living. I’m not really fond of “intensive” tourism, like when you want to visit so many unmissable places and do so many things in a short time period that you just forget to take a break and just appreciate what’s around you. Of course, I won’t lie, I love to take photos on a trip and do « touristic stuffs », but now, I also take time to just walk around without being worried about missing a good picture or a « major spot ».
3. London ! Without a doubt ! I’ve travelled there 3/4 times and would recommand it to everyone. It’s only 2 hours from Paris by train, but it’s a complete change of scenery. The atmosphere of the city is so particular (in a good way), unique ! You can litteraly spend hours just strolling and getting lost in the streets …
Haha, I will say #2 (team coffee) altough I might be a little bit too far away to participate xD
I’m sorry for this endless comment, I think your post inspired me 🙂
Have a great day !

My favorite thing about visiting a new city is being mindful and noting how differently people interact and essentially ‘live’ in the area. It amazes me how often I forget when I’m at home getting ready for bed or doing anything mundane that somewhere in the world people are doing just about everything at any given time. For instance, I’m sitting here typing this at the same time someone somewhere is trying to change a tire, or falling in love, or trying to ride a bike while on the phone and carrying a box of pizza. Haha sounds crazy but I like the feeling of being “new” surrounded by people going through their everyday routines. Being mindful of this makes me sometimes wonder, “What’s going on right now in Ocean Isle Beach? Or NYC. Or Southport?”
Taralynn McNitt says
Such a unique way of looking at the big picture called LIFE!

What is your favorite part about visiting a new city?
My favorite part is getting to experience a completely new culture and visiting local establishments and supporting local business! I try not to use Yelp or Google recommendations for places, because they’re often overrated, so I will always ask friendly locals where to go for dinner, or what the best coffee/hang out spot is so I can get a feel for what it’s like to live there.
I also love exploring the nature in each city I visit, especially in the Pacific Northwest. There is so much amazing hiking and trails just outside of Seattle that no one ever thinks to visit, and it was my favorite part of visiting there!
Sitting on my couch with a good book and some steaming hot coffee is one of my favorite things to do, so #2 for me! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says

I’ve never been to Savannah, but after seeing your pictures and reading about it in your blog posts, I’ve bumped it up to the top of the list! I love the familiarity of visiting a great place in the morning before you start your day. I live in Oregon so I try and go out to the coast as often as I can! Especially in the winter and late spring/early summer when it’s still a sleepy little town and there aren’t too many visitors!
Obviously coffee is important to me, I’d love to win #1! 💕

#2 By far the best thing about traveling to new places is the people you get to meet! I spent a few months backpacking through Europe and stayed at hostels, and we always met the most incredible people. Meeting people and finding out where they are from, the reasons they decided to open the business or store you’re visiting, or their favourite places in the city you’re touring — it’s the ultimate way to get the most out of the experience. Recommendations from locals is how I’ve found the most amazing restaurants on my travels!
Taralynn McNitt says
Sounds amazing!!!
Brooklyn Murtaugh says
Everything looks so incredible, the views, the food, the B&B. Love it all.

My favorite part about visiting a new city is focusing on visiting the places the locals hang out and less the touristy places. I get a better feeling for a city by seeing restaurants, beach, etc. the locals love. I also love staying at B&Bs. It is so much more relaxing than hotels.

No but it’s on the list to travel to some day! I always hear how great Savannah is. Plus I watch Southern Charm Savannah so that makes me want to even more.
What is your favorite part about visiting a new city?
Exploring of course and the food! My husband and I want to visit every state together. We recently bought a map that you can hang in a frame and once you visit a state you scratch it off with a coin and it reveals a fun color.
What is one place you try to visit as often as you can?
I would say Austin. There is always something so new and fun whenever we go. Plus its just a fun place in general
#1 because ice cream!! Yum!

I’ve been to Savannah once, literally 2 years ago this week. It’s such an easy city to fall in love with and long for when you’re away from it. We were there 4 days and there is still so much we didn’t get to do so definitely need to go back soon! I aslo completely understand your muffin issue! There is a shrimp and corn chowder I had at a small restaurant on River Street that I crave at random times (also the Pralines because I have yet to find anything close to them here in KY)! first of all, I need to tell you again how much I love reading your blog and seeing you happy with Kyle! I always make myself a cup of coffee when I read it haha.
I will try and answer all questions for the giveaway, but I would love to get #1 from the giveaway 🙂
I was in Savannah 2 years ago when I was visiting a friend in Charleston. It was absolutely beautiful and just like being in a Nicolas Sparks movie. I liked all the shops, cafe´s, all the plants and trees and just that southern feel to it. Also, I forgot the name of the street, but there were lots of bachelorette parties there and there were these country musicians playing and it was just amazing!!
My favorite part about visiting a new city…..tough one, cause there is always more than one part. First I have to say, I see what vibe the city gives me (does that sound weird?). I really think that some cities, you just feel right at home, like you belong there even though you cannot really say why. The People you encounter in a new city are important. The vibe they give off either makes you like their city or the opposite. I also love if there´s cute unique shops, cafe´s (food is IMPORTANT :)) Also, if there´s a center but also a nature getaway, like a mountain close by or a nice park, the ocean, a lake/river….I am a nature person,…
As I am a flight attendant (from Germany) I get to see so many different places, but as I used to live in Santa Monica, I always love flying out to LA and driving there, visiting my favorite cafe´s and the ocean, It just makes me so happy.
And another town I loooove (I would have probably never visited if it weren´t for my job) is Vancouver!! Wow, this city!! I just instantly fell in love. The people (canadians are just sooooo nice), handsome men (haha), nice Cafe´s, and nature is just breathtaking there. And how cool is it to fly a seaplane? I loved it. You can go hiking, have the ocean and you have to visit this city! Believe me!!
Hope you have a fantastic weekend. Greetings from Bamberg, Germany (which is also a nice place to visit if
you ever make it out to Germany. It´s my hometown and absolutely gorgeous)

My husband and I went to Savannah last year for our first wedding anniversary and had the best time! We try to go somewhere new every year; our goal is to make it to all 50 states. I think my favorite thing to do whenever I’m in a new town is to find a really cool but kind of divey bar to hang out in and get the real vibe of the city. For us in Savannah it was an awesome martini bar called Jen’s & Friends!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is an awesome goal!!!
I keep hearing about Jen’s & Friends!

#2,
I usually prefer to visit new places rather than return to places I’ve been before, but I love Savannah too & have been there 3 times. My husband & I are also going back to Hawaii for our one year anniversary in August. I love the history, beautiful scenery, & outdoor activities both Savannah & Hawaii provide.
Taralynn McNitt says
Agree, but Savannah is one of those places I never get sick of 😊
You’ll have so much fun in Hawaii! What island are you visiting?
Cassie says
Girllll, so long story short. I am actually moving to Merritt Island Florida as I type this. I was talking to my fiancé the entire time I read this blog saying how much I want to visit Savannah! I love traveling and visiting new areas. It gives Me such an excitement that’s hard to explain. Like you never know what to expect but you know it’s going to be good. My fiancé and I are planning a move either in a few months (after Florida because we both hate it haha) to either NC or back to NY and plenty of trips in between while we think. I’m putting Savannah on the list of places to visit haha.🙌🏻

What a great blog post! Looks like a wonderful trip!
Haven’t been there. But would love to go one day.
My favorite thing about new cities is the people. Just talking
to the locals and getting a feel for life there. Each place can
be so unique.
Our go to place is probably Carmel, CA. We were there on
our honeymoon. So returning has so many good memories!
#2 would be so awesome to win!

I have been to Savannah and it is magical, I was with a close friend and we spent the best fourth of July ever, even got an autographed copy of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. We enjoyed meeting the Lady Chablis and seeing where Jim Williams lived. The people of Savannah are among the friendliest I have ever met. I am looking forward to my next road trip to Savannah!

I try to visit the Lake of the Ozarks as often as I can, because it’s always so fun and I’ve been going there since I was a kid.
As always, your blog posts are so great! Thanks for doing what you do! 🙂

#1 I went to Savannah at the end of September last year, and didn’t like it that much! I felt terrible about it because I am probably the only one in the world that didn’t enjoy Savannah. It was just too hot, and kinda smelled. I did go to Charleston the week after and absolutely loved that city, though! I always try to find a local brewery to check out in a new city. Charlotte’s got a lot! ( haha) We used to visit Portland, ME whenever we had the chance for the past few years. We loved it so much we just moved here a month ago!
Taralynn McNitt says
You must not have explored it the right way lol I went last September as well and I do agree that it was HOT! But Charleston is fun too!:)
Kelsey W. says
My favorite part of visiting a new city is to plan a few food spots to check out while I am there! I am a total foodie and I try to find a place that is known for the local cuisine. For example, when I went to Charleston for the first time, I went to Eli’s Table off of your recommendation and ordered the Shrimp & Grits–OMG! I had never had it before and it was more delicious that I imagined. I’d love to enter in giveaway #2 🙂 xo Kelsey
Taralynn McNitt says
OMG IM SO HAPPY YOU WENT TO ELI’S TABLE!!!
Cait Hoyler says
My husband and I just went there last week for the first time and LOVED it!
I’d love to win #2!
We went to a bunch of the places you had shown on your IG because this blog wasn’t out yet hahah
We loved Collins Quarter for breakfast, it was the first place we went to and we split the avocado toast as a snack. It is such an adorable place.
We stayed at the East Bay Inn and it was GORGEOUS. The rooms are so unique with high ceilings and you could walk everywhere. We did our own little “food tour” since we were only there for 24 hours and ended it the next morning with a walk in Forsyth Park.
You aren’t kidding about the heat though-WHOAA!
One thing I love about new cities is their coffee shops too! I love loev love waking up early before everyone else and exploring.
One place we always try to go back to is New Orleans! We’ve been there about 8 times and find new things to love every time. Savannah definitely reminded me of New Orleans with its architecture and Parisian influence.
Your posts are always great (OG follower here!) and your pictures are always fabulous.
Thanks!
Cait Hoyler

I am currently sitting at work which is in downtown Savannah and after reading about your trip, I can’t wait to try some of the places that you recommend that I’ve been wanting to visit! Fig & Fig has been on my list for months and I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it. The Coffee Fox is a definite favorite of mine, but I’ve never had those delicious looking muffins so I will totally have to order one next time. Those photos you shared where the setting sun was peaking through the trees were absolutely amazing! Being in the city and seeing views like that seriously never gets old!

#1 – because my mama can’t have dairy, and she lives in the middle of nowhere where no vegan ice cream can be found! So that is something I would LOVE to share with her ♥
I actually have a trip to Savannah planned in a little over a year and a half! HOPEFULLY we get drawn for purchase of a ticket to the Masters in Augusta, and that is going to be my anniversary present to my husband for our three year anniversary! It’s supposed to be a “leather” anniversary (because we want to get creative, we follow the traditional list!) So I am going to give him a new leather golf score card holder with his initials, and have the tickets in there! But if we are THAT close, we HAVE to visit Savannah, and especially Tybee Island (one of my bucketlist places!)
This was such a GORGEOUS trip recap – I wanted to dive into the photos as well! What a dream!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Hannah!
I’m excited for you to see my ice cream post. I think you’ll 1000000% love making your own dairy-free ice cream!!

After years of wanting to there we finally got the chance to stop by for a few hours on our way to Florida. It was so charming I can’t wait to go back and spend more time. One place we try to visit every summer is Ithaca,NY. they have beautiful hiking trails, waterfalls and tons of wineries.
Taralynn McNitt says
Glad you had the chance to see it! 😊

Hi Taralynn. Savannah looks so beautiful. It looks like you guys had an amazing trip!
1. I have never been to Savannah but it looks magical. It definitely looks like a city that I would like to visit in the future. There is something about the southern states that I am so drawn to.
2. I love the restaurants and cafes. I am such a foodie and there is something so fun about trying out new restaurants & drinks. I also love meeting new people & learning more about the city from people who live there.
3. I’m from Canada and on the eastern coast we have a small province called Prince Edward Island and in the summer it is the most beautiful place. They have red dirt/sand & so many beaches/campgrounds. It is such a cute place & I try to go every summer because it makes me so happy.
Giveaway number 1 please because ice cream is the way to my heart!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks, Erica!
I need to explore Savannah soon! Such a gorgeous place 🙂

Giveaway #2 please 🙂
3. My husband and I have been going to Palisade, CO every year for my birthday. It is probably my favorite town in Colorado. I love the laid back atmosphere and we really enjoy people watching while we’re out there 🙂 Palisade is pretty famous for its peaches and wine! The weather there in the summer is my absolute favorite; hot and dry! We always stay at the Wine Country Inn and that place is amazing. If you make another trip to CO, you should try to get to Palisade. The surrounding views are breathtaking. You won’t be disappointed!

#2- I stayed in Savannah on my drive back to FL from North Carolina. I wish I got to stay longer and really explore! This blog post gave me the itch to go back! I loved looking at the trees and beautiful old homes! My favorite place to visit is upstate NY! I went to school there and my family still lives there. Hammondsport NY is a cute little town on Keuka Lake where my sister lives! Lots of cute breweries and wineries!! I also love to boat on the lake with the fam!
Taralynn McNitt says

I have never been to Savannah but it sounds and looks like an amazing place. I actually live in Georgia and am only about 4 hours from there so it’s definitely something I need to do somewhat soon. 🙂
When I go to a new city/location, I loooove the food. I love seeing the different restaurants/hole in the wall places to eat that are different from chain restaurants and all that. Seeing how others come up with menu options amazes me for some reason, but then again I just love food lol.
One place that I absolutely love is Chicago. It’s probably my favorite city and I just love how much there is to do there. I have always wanted to go to New York City though.

My husband and I LOVE Savannah! I’m a huge fan of the Shop SCAD store for gifts and jewelry too since it’s all unique. My favorite thing to do when I travel is find the best local coffee shops. We love Coffee Fox, but also always stop at the actual Perc shop (a little further outside downtown, but worth it). One place we travel to a lot is Sanibel Island. It’s like a home away from home at this point, and is the definition of island life.

Your blog is just gorgeous and I love reading it!
I have never been to Savannah before- but after reading your recap, I definitely think I need to plan a trip there in the future. It would be perfect for an anniversary trip.
I love traveling and one of my favorite parts of visiting a new place is finding places where the locals love to go- especially when it comes to restaurants.
My favorite place to visit over and over again is the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan. My Dad grew up there and so we have beaches and restaurants that we always have to go to every time we go. It is not a big tourist area and the water is freezing cold- but the scenery is beautiful and make new memories every time we go.
