I’m currently sitting outside on my porch enjoying the sunny 79-degree weather. It’s insane how warm weather can put you in a good mood instantly. I need to move to a place with weather like this all year round and then travel to the North during fall peak and a snowy December.
Last Friday, it was cold and rainy. I spent most of the day cleaning, meal prepping, and making these delicious figgy banana almond blondies. I had my last one this morning with my coffee, and I’m sad they are gone. The flavor is rich and hard to believe that it’s healthy. These figgy banana blondies are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, grain free, and have no added sugars. My parents were obsessed with them, so I had to send them home with half the batch on Saturday afternoon when they stopped by.
I sat down last night and created a big Spring menu for the blog. I have so many fun recipes coming that are healthy, filled with wholesome foods, and delicious. When the warmer months arrive, I’m all about cooking recipes. During the winter, I kind of throw things together and call it a meal.
I love figs so much, and they add so much sweetness to desserts or even savory dishes. When I was cutting up figs to make an appetizer a while back, Kyle was horrified by the look of them. I made him try one, and he was shocked. He loved them. I ended up making him cut the rest of the package because he ate the ones I had already chopped! I usually keep them in my freezer for a post-workout treat. They remind me of dates.
Figgy Banana Blondies
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 Cups Almond Flour
- 1 1/2 Cups Coconut Flour
- 2 Tsps Baking Soda
- 1 Tbsp Baking Powder
- 1 Cup Swerve
- 2 Tsps Vanilla
- 2 Tsps Almond Extract
- 1 1/2 Cup Almond Milk (or your choice of milk)
- 2 Large Bananas (overly-ripe)
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1/4 Cup Applesauce
- 6-7 Medium Dried Figs (frozen to make slicing easier)
- 1/4 Cup Chopped Walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 and grease an oven-safe dish. I used a 7 X 11 oven-safe dish. Any size will work.
- Sift together the almond flour, coconut flour, baking powder, baking soda, and swerve together.
- In a small bowl, mash the bananas. *I used a fork to mash them.Mix the bananas, eggs, applesauce, almond milk, vanilla, and almond extract together.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and combine.
- Transfer the mixture into the greased pan and use a spatula to spread evenly. Top the blondies with sliced figs and walnuts.
- Bake 28-32 minutes. Use the toothpick method to determine if they are done. All ovens cook differently, so pay attention 🙂
Notes
These are great snack bars, breakfast bars, post-workout bars, and they pair perfectly with vanilla ice cream!
Make sure to cool the bars in the fridge for at least two hours before slicing.
This recipe makes fifteen bars! (depending on the pan you use)
I drizzled a little honey on this one 🙂

Questions for you!
- Does warm weather make you happy?
- Are you team figs?

I’ve only just heard of blondies! I guess brownies are more popular where I live, haha! 🙂 I’ll definitely give the recipe a try, though! ❤️

I love figs! These look amazing, can’t wait to try them!
Nashville is like 70 degrees today too! I wish it was still winter weather . Snow is just so magical 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol, I think I don’t like the winter weather because we don’t have snow it’s just cold! And it’s hard to walk the dogs when it’s so cold lol

I live in southern California… so it’s pretty much always warm. Granted now I live at the beach so it is nice to have cold mornings. Being born and raised here thought I love vistiting places that have actual seasons! I think I would love to live in the Carolina’s, I love that you have seasons, but I am a huge fan of the rain and greenery so Seattle or Portland also seem nice to me. I haven’t cooked to much with figs but I do love them I fell in love with figs & dates when doing whole 30 last year.
Taralynn McNitt says
Weather is always beautiful everywhere you go, it’s just fun when it changes or when the seasons match the holidays!
Yes, Whole30 is big on the figs and dates!:)
Meghan says
These look so good!! Definitely giving them a try this week. I’ve never had figs (besides Fig Newtons haha) but I’m always down to try new things. Anything banana is good in my book.
I love when it starts getting warm in the spring, but I’m really not a summer person! As much as I hate the negative degree weather in WI, I would rather have to bundle up than be super hot and sweaty haha. Low 70’s is good for me, however the weather down there sounds great right about now. One of my best friends lives in Charlotte and has been sending me Snapchats of the great weather you guys have!! Jealous!
Taralynn McNitt says
They taste just like the filling in fig newtons!:)
I hate when it’s SUPER SUPER hot, but I love spring weather and fall weather! oh, and the random snow day once a year here!
Linda @ the Fitty says
Warm weather generally does not make me happy but I must say I enjoy seasonal changes because sometimes I grow tired of the same weather day in and day out.
I’m not entirely ready for spring and I want winter to last until the enjoy of April though!
Also, I’m generally not a huge fan of figs or dried fruits like cranberries and apricots, haha.
Taralynn McNitt says
I agree! 🙂 It’s nice to have seasonal changes!

Yum!

YUM! I only recently discovered how amazing dates are, so I think I would love figs too! And I’m pretty much game to try any dessert recipe you post after the brownies haha. I love blondies, and I’m so glad this is a healthier version of one of my favorites!
Warm weather makes me SO happy. I love snow, because of snowboarding. But I think we’re definitely beach bunnies at heart (considering Ben is shirtless at any opportunity and wear shorts in the snow haha).
Team figs is yet to be decided, but the outlook is promising 🙂
Happy weekend Taralynn!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Susie!
omg. dates and figs are the ugliest, but tastiest!
I’m so happy you love those brownies! 🙂 I’m going to try making a mint version!
hahaha ben and kyle sound so much alike!
Have a great week!

I think it’s adorable that your parents love your cooking so much! Usually we are obsessed with our parents’ cooking, while in your case your parents are always obsessed with yours. 🙂 I would love to see more recipes that use more normal, easy to find ingredients. I feel that you cater a bit to a small population of your readers with every recipe being gluten-free, dairy-free, etc. I assume a lot of us do appreciate healthy recipes, but something doesn’t have to be free of everything to be healthy.
1. Warm weather makes me very happy! The weather here can’t seem to make up its mind and has been all over the place.
2. Figs are amazing. I buy them regularly to add to chia pudding, try it if you haven’t yet! Throwing nuts and maple syrup in there makes it even better. 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Jolee!
Since my dad is retired and my parent’s don’t live to far from me, they always stop by, and I always shave some leftover food I made for the blog out! So they always get to taste test!
When I post the recipes, it’s because it’s something I made for my house. Just sharing the recipes that I cook. My ingredients are pretty easy to find at the store anywhere, and they are just good whole foods that I love:)I get my stuff at a regular grocery store. I post a variety of recipes and foods on my recap posts and blog to choose from.
I’ll have to try adding figs to chia pudding! great idea!
Alisa says
Great recipe! I made your avocado brownies and they were a hit! Can’t wait to make these.
Taralynn McNitt says
So happy to hear that!

Your blog is beautiful. Thank you for all the content.
Taralynn McNitt says
Aww! Thank you 🙂
Bailey says
Where do you find figs?
Taralynn McNitt says
You can find them at your grocery store in the fresh produce section (usually by the tropical fruits) or where they sell raisins/craisins/dried fruit!
Melissa says
Yes! Out in CA, it feels like we never really have a winter so sometimes I miss that. But I love the warm weather! Instant mood booster
YES figs are delicious! They’re a misunderstood fruit 😂
Any suggestion if I don’t want to use banana? (Bananas are one of the two fruits I don’t like)
Thank you! (Also thanks for the wonderful blog all these years! Always look forward to your posts)
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Melissa!
I could totally see missing winter or falls when you don’t have them. I’m like that too. I need a little does of something each season!
lol they totally are!!!
hmmmmmmmm I’m not sure because the bananas are what gives it all the flavor! The avocado brownie recipe is pretty similar and no bananas included! 😀
NanS says
Those look so good – I never buy figs and I really want to try them now!
That last photo made me think: I’d love to see a post about your fridge & pantry : what’s in there, whats the best place to store different item etc. I always end up having to throw away veggies because they’re hiding in the back of my cluttered fridge getting old!
It would be great to see a tour of your items and get some storage inspiration!
Have a lovely weekend. 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi!
oh, they are so good! You must try 😀
Yes! I can totally do that! Lots of veggies/fruits/and meal prepped meals! and sparkling water lol I posted a little video on my IG story! (under eats) on my Instagram!
