BEST Savannah Georgia Travel Guide | Where to Eat, Stay & Explore

Savannah is one of my favorite places. It has all the summer charm you could dream of and only a short drive from Charlotte. It holds a special place in my heart for many reasons. A couple of weeks ago, Kyle and I decided to take a weekend trip down to Savannah and stay at the Hamilton-Turner Inn. We had our eyes on this place the last time we visited a couple years ago, and couldn’t wait to actually stay there.

Like always, I took over 1000 photos, so choosing which ones to share was difficult. I shared some of my favorites, and I hope you feel like you’re walking the streets of Savannah as you go through this blog post. I also created a travel vlog during our trip, so make sure to also check that out!

I did all the things I love during this trip. I walked around taking photos, visited antique shops, coffee shops, and new restaurants. We walked the farmers market, rented bikes, and experienced the nightlife on the Savannah streets. We checked into the Hamilton-Turner Inn around 2 pm. The bed and breakfast is located in the Lafayette Square in the historic district of Savannah. The house was built in 1873 and it hasn’t lost a single detail of charm.

I spent a lot of time in the morning drinking coffee and relaxing in the parlor. I loved listening to the floorboards creak above me as the people started to wake up. On the first morning, I read many articles about the paranormal activity people have witnessed here. I love that stuff even if it’s all made up. 

This parlor is absolutely breathtaking and the pictures don’t do it justice.

If you’re a fan of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, you’ve probably recognized this house. We visited during Savannah’s hottest month. My hair was even more frizzy than it normally was, and I ended taking over six showers in one weekend! Boy, is it hot here!

We had been walking around for a couple hours and decided to stop into The Collins Quarter for dinner. This was one of the best decisions ever. To be honest, I chose the place because it was cute. The cuteness didn’t matter after trying their food. This place could have had zero character but the food alone would have pulled me back every day if I lived in Savannah.

If you were to ask me to pick a meal as my last meal before I die, I would choose this meal right here. When I ordered it, I thought it would be a good choice with protein, complex carbs, and veggies. I didn’t know it was going to melt in my mouth, take my taste buds to places they’ve never been, and then easily become one of my favorite meals in the entire world.

I hope you trust me here. If you live in Savannah or plan on visiting, order the “hot chicken.” I’m sure everything else on the menu is just as good, but you’re going to be in heaven with this meal. The perfectly cooked chicken is served with a sunny side egg over rice pilaf with roasted peanuts, haricot verts, and an Asian hot sauce. I don’t even know how they did the rice so perfectly, either! Rice usually tastes like typical rice, but their rice was irresistible. I’ve never been so in love with a dish before. 💜

We also ordered a salad to split before our meal because we were so hungry. Of course, I ended up eating pretty much the whole thing because I’m a rabbit when it comes to salad. Kyle takes four bites and he’s “had enough.” 😆 We went with the Shirazi salad which had shaved leeks, arugula, marinated tomatoes, cucumbers, and a sumac vinaigrette. It was so hot and humid that we both went through four bottles of water. We went into coffee shops to buy them, and it was the first time in forever where coffee didn’t sound good at all.

We got back to the room around 10:00 pm, turned on a movie and enjoyed a night in.

I decided to put on some comfortable clothes, and take a walk around the streets before it got too hot. I let Kyle sleep in for a few hours and he had no idea I had been gone for two hours roaming the empty streets of Savannah. I think the whole city was sleeping. Have you ever heard of the saying “keeping up with the Jones.” This is the street where that saying came from! Kyle and I had an amazing breakfast at the inn. Fresh fruit with granola, hot coffee, scrambled eggs, sausages, and peach cobbler pancakes was served with lemon pound cake available at the breakfast bar. They also work with you if you have any dietary needs.

We walked through the farmers market at Forsyth park on our way to the tennis courts. By the time we got to the courts, we were already melting and terribly hot. We decided to nix that idea, go back and get changed, and rent bikes instead.

Forsyth Park is amazing. There is so much space for activities, festivals, and hanging out. I can see why people love it there. Whenever you see the fountain in Savannah pictures, it’s usually this one at Forsyth Park. The walkway that leads up to the fountain with surrounding Spanish moss is every postcard maker’s dream.

We headed down to the Paris market for fresh water infused with fruits. They have the best! We had their coffee and macaroons last time we visited, and those are so delicious!

My brother said we weren’t allowed to leave until trying Zunzi’s. He actually told me that last time too, but never got around to trying it out. I was ready for lunch around 1 pm, so we walked down to Zunzis! The line was long, which is a good sign that the restaurant is worth the wait! My brother was right! Zunzis was AWESOME! I ordered a garden salad with their delicious chicken, guacamole, and all their sauces to try out! I even bought my brother some of their special sauces to ship. Makes sure to add this Savannah staple to your list!

They provided a map for us that gave us the perfect route to hit all of the squares. They let us know which sidewalks to stay on and which ones to stay off. Not going to lie, this little cruiser was pretty comfortable!

We rode around for two and a half hours before returning the bikes. Such a blast!

I was so excited about this. When I saw all of their delicious looking food on Instagram, I was ready to try it all.

We ordered The Salad which had red romaine, spinach, tarragon-balsamic vinaigrette, almonds, pepitas, hemp seeds, walnuts, red onions, and Miyoko’s Kitchen Mozzarella (SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD)

We also ordered the Breakfast Tacos. The tacos consisted of corn tortillas filled with sweet potatoes, blueberry-sage sausage, bell peppers, caramelized onions, fresh herbs, and Vertu Farms Sunflower shoots served with Foxy salsa. We even added guacamole to the top! These were too dang good!

Lastly, we ordered the Fox Burger, which inspired me to by the Beyond Burgers at Whole Foods last week. The Fox Burger came with arugula, caramelized onions, agave-dijon, avocado, a perfectly cooked Beyond Burger, and the best chips ever. You can’t go to a place like Fox & Fig without ordering dessert!

I’m telling you, these desserts were unbelievable! They beat out Living Kitchen’s desserts by 100000000x (Sorry Living Kitchen, I still love you!)

We picked out the white chocolate peanut butter mousse cake with agave-whipped crème and mini PB cup, and the raw strawberry cheesecake with a fig and espresso crust. Kyle picked out the best “Milky Shake” ever!

It featured Leopold’s coconut cream vegan ice cream with house-made whipped cream, peanut butter, oat milk, and Justin’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups! Of course, I had to try it! We walked to Fox & Fig so I could pick up some things to take home! These goji berry bars were so good with my morning coffee throughout the week. It’s the little things that excite me. Sounds like you and Kyle are making the memories! ❤️❤️ Our family just got back from London and Paris and it was so amazing, from the historical aspect but even more so, the beautiful architecture, especially Paris! You NEED to go there sometime, you, of all people, would be in heaven! Now I need to go to Savannah! Love the window ‘boxes’ at Fox & Fig, I want to build those for my dining room wall!   5. I’m usually an early bird on vacations except on my last trip to Maui, the time change totally threw me even though it was only a 3 hour difference from California. I just got back from Chicago and was up every morning at 6! I haven’t been to Savannah but it along with Charleston are on my list for sure! I also have to say I am definitely more of a hotel person or I like renting a whole home from AirBNB or HomeAway especially if I’m up in the mountains. Have a great weekend, I’m off to Disneyland!

  10. I actually went for the first time two weekends ago! We loved the architecture and also stayed at a bed and breakfast (which is definitely better than a hotel!!!) We had a great time, but it was a lot hotter and more humid than we expected!! I also was interested in the paranormal activity, even if it’s fake, it’s still fun to hear about it!

      We were almost there at the same time! Man, that humidity was awful lol but I’m excited to go back when it cools down!

  13. Yes definitely an early bird!! I’m always up waiting for the coffee shops I want to try to open. I prefer Airbnb to travel, last time we went to San Diego we brought our chemex to our beachouse so we didn’t have to leave every time we wanted a cup of coffee 😊

    No I’m not up early; I struggle to heave myself out of bed and I’m an early to bed kinda person too 😏
    Yes we visited Savannah on our trip to the southern states for my 40th Birthday in 2016 and we loved it.
    I was following a Gone with the Wind Trail (I’m a huge Vivien Leigh fan).
    Sadly it was following Hurricane Mathew, just a few days afterwards, so Savannah wasn’t at it’s best, but it was still adorable.
    I prefer B&B definitely. Far quainter and I find they cater to our Vegan diet more.
    I recognised lots of your photos 😁

      I’m definitely an early to bed person as well, but early to rise! Wish I could sleep in a few more hours. My brain is just too quick to start!

      That is so funny! That’s where the “tara” in my name comes from! My mom was a huge Gone With The Wind fan.

      It’s definitely bounced back since the hurricane, fortunately!

      Yes, very quaint and they are always great about accommodating diets!

  17. I’m only an early riser during the work week. Up at either 5:30 or 6:30 depending on where I’m working that day. Also the street in Savannah is one of several origins of Keeping up with the Joneses! It was a comic strip and an actual historical family 🙂.

  19. Wow what a beautiful getaway, savannah looks so incredible. Definitely going to try and add Savannah to my USA travel next year. I am a early bird when on vacation, I like to try and fit as much exploring in as possible in to each day. B&B over a hotel any day. Such a fantastic post!

  20. I used to live in Jacksonville, so Savannah was a good day trip spot (it’s only like a 2 hour drive) that I took a few times. I know you said you wanted to go back during late November, but I recommend going a little bit later – the houses during Christmas are gorgeous!

  21. I am always an early bird on vacation because of all the excitement!! I have only stayed in hotels, motels, and airbnbs. Also, awhile back you posted an affordable cute t-shirt and I can’t remember where it was from! It was just basic t-shirts that were in all colors and stripes.. you might be wearing it in this post, but I cannot remember! Do you have any ideas?

  23. I love Savannah! I went many years ago, but I stayed at the Hamilton Turner Inn as well. We chose a room on the top floor and at that time they had these giant soaking tubs that we so luxurious! From their website it looks like those have been replaced with showers. We stayed in the Earl of Chatam Suite. I really enjoyed the breakfasts we had each morning there. I want to go back soon, but right now it is just too hot. Maybe in November 🙂 There is a bakery there called Back in the Day bakery. I have their cookbook and have wanted to visit the bakery ever since I got the book. You take beautiful photos, you really captured the historical charm on this city. I think you would love St. Augustine if you have never been. Lots of antique stores to find treasures in.       So glad you’ve already experienced the inn and beautiful Savannah! I think the breakfasts were one of my favorite parts! 💜 Yes, I agree! It’s way tooooo hot right now. I will have to check out that bakery! There is so much to do and see that several trips are necessary!

    YES! I LOVE Savannah! Such a gorgeous town. We stayed at the Oglethorpe. So pretty.

    I typically prefer hotels, but I think that is because I’ve never really stayed in a B&B.
