My office space is so different from the rest of my house. I wanted a domain of my own that felt cozy, feminine, and a place where I could display as many niknaks as I wanted. I was hesitant to share my office post because sometimes home decor can be a bit personal, and when you really love something, it’s hard to hear criticism from others. There are things in my office that do not make sense in a style sense, but my office is more than that. It’s my cozy cove and filled with photos that make me happy, flowers from my garden, and a few items that do not match. This has become one of my favorite spots, and it makes hopping on my computer to write a bit easier. When we first bought this house, this room was as plain as it could be. I went back and forth on how I wanted to design it, and I’m thrilled with the results. It’s the first room you see when you walk in from the garage, so I love that it greets you with a colorful hello. The window looks out to the backyard, and it’s the best view of the early morning sun rising.
I’m sure you noticed the knobs. I’m currently waiting for the new blue knobs to come in so I can change out the black ones. Look how empty it was, and it’s so white! Last summer, Kyle and I worked on doing a board and batten wall on this room’s right side. I was shocked at how easy the board and batten project was, and we plan to do the same in our upstairs loft. Lowes sells wood specifically for board and batten. We cut the wood, attached it with a nail gun, sanded them, added putty, and it was done! I painted the boards Boothbay Gray from Benjamin Moore. I absolutely LOVE this color! This will be the last time I ever willingly do wallpaper on my own. Not only did it take a while, but I also am NOT a patient person. I ordered this wallpaper from an artist on Etsy and absolutely loved it. This was a three-day project, and it’s definitely not perfect. I found these cute corner shelves at Hobby Lobby. They have the best affordable home decor. It’s also important to paint the trim board of the board and batten. I left it white at first, but this is so much better. I still need to paint the outlet. I always put fresh flowers from my garden in my little glass jars. They are old yogurt containers. I know they do not match, but seeing things from my garden (my favorite place to be) makes the decor extra special. It’s crazy how the paintings from Hobby Lobby match the wallpaper almost perfectly. I bought the blue swivel chair from Amazon, and it’s so comfortable! I’m obsessed with my big diamond head pens. There’s no way you can lose pens when they look like this! Home Goods always has a good selection of office supplies. I bought the organizer for bills, letters, and paperwork to keep in the corner. It keeps the space a bit tidier. Sometimes it looks like this area was hit with a tornado if I don’t stay on top of it—all Hobby Lobby niknaks. The office light is from Kichler. I’ve been thinking about putting that light in my pantry and putting a cute wicker light in this area. You’ll have to let me know! It may be too much, or it could be super cute! I had to get the stretchy iPhone pic. I made sure they put my outlets on top of the desk instead of under when they built the house. I didn’t want to have random cords hanging over the sides. Our floors are Roanoke LVP. It’s nearly impossible for the dogs to scratch them, so we love them! I used a piece of blue fabric cloth for a bulletin board. I had one hanging there, but it was too much clutter. I love watching the sunrise here. Shelves are also from Hobby Lobby. Everything is always 50% off in there, so that’s why I’m constantly stopping in. This is the coziest lamp! I wish they made them bigger. I hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into my favorite little office space!

I love this! Very cozy. Do you have a tutorial for your board and batten project or a link to the specific wood you got from Lowe’s?! I can’t wait to do my own board and batten project!
Taralynn says
Hi, Danielle!
I just watched A TON of board and batten youtube tutorials until I learned how to do it myself! If you type it into YouTube SO MANY amazing videos come up!
Lily says
So what if the glass jars don’t match. I wouldn’t have noticed on my own lol and the fact that you are re-using them in such a cute way is awesome!
I think the office looks very relaxing and lovely.
My current preference for decorating is using white, black and stripes, with some small colorful accents. I like Rae Dunn products.

Thanks, Lily!!

I am not great at interior design so it’s unclear what isn’t matching to me. It all looks so lovely! I love the feminine wallpaper, the floors and the gray paint! Thanks for sharing.

Hello Taralynn, I also have a small office where I put a sofa and where I like to sit there to make my jewelry, read and be quiet, the decor is not harmonious but it is my place. Kiss from France, Émilie (deluneetdetoiles)

Having just bought out house last year in September, ,we are finally getting all the rooms set up to our own unique style! My laundry room is still bare bones so I am looking forward to designing it from the ground up. It needs a total makeover.
We recently painted our living room and dining room a really pretty grayish purple. Our kitchen is a muted purple with dark, almost black, cabinets on the bar area. Purple is our trending color right now- but not like Barney or grape purple…think more amethyst, muted wisteria, lavender…those kind of shades. All lean more towards gray than a true purple.
I collect crystals and stones so our entire house has them everywhere as decor. My living is mostly amethyst, rose quarts, and turquoise. I use them as inspiration. I also collect anything with stars and moons as well. My youngest says is “like modern-witchy vibes”!
Our bedroom got a complete makeover- the walls are a sagey-olive green and the accent colors are oatmeal, charcoal and terra cotta (lot of plants are in our bedroom- its like urban jungle meets boho). I am crazy about it!

Your house sounds beautiful!!

Good job on the board and batten! I did b&b in the bedroom of our last house. I was pretty proud of it, but also I know where I made mistakes and I’m looking forward to doing an even better job (eventually!) in our current house.
Taralynn says
Same here! I’m looking forward to doing it again as well!

OMG Thank you for linking that chair, I have been trying to find a cute one for my desk in the den and I think this one will be perfect. I am currently giving my kitchen a makeover. We painted out lower cabinets blue, the tops white and and changed all the hardware to an antique silver. However my counters are still a light yellow, I think we may paint them but I need to find the right product. The one we had originally got needed to cure for like 5 days and I NEED TO COOK. LOL I love using blues, and rich greens and then classic black and white. We just painted one of the walls in our room I think its called Hemlock Green and I am obsessed, I’m going for a midcentury modern vibe.
Taralynn says
Find a chair was so hard!! 😆
I saw people painting their counters and having someone do epoxy on them! they look amazing!!!!

I love your office it looks amazing!!!! I think that fixture would look amazing in your pantry and then adding one to your office that complements the femininity a bit more, maybe something wood or gold? I totally wish I had a space like this! My office is currently in our bedroom 🤦🏻♀️.

Your office is just stunning, so cozy and inviting. The space in my house I love the most is my room, its very soft and natural (if that’s a thing) with lots of vintage knickknacks. My favorite colour to decorate with is soft blue/green greys, they go so well in any style of home. My home is pretty good now we have done the whole place up, though we are hopefully moving our company into new offices soon so there is going to be a massive makeover (exterior and interior) I’m looking forward to the interior the most, I always tell my clients don’t be scared to use colours so now I have to take some of my own advise.
Taralynn says
Thank you so much 😊
Sounds like some exciting projects coming up!!

Taralynn, This is stunning! It is cozy and functional. I love how light and airy it feels. I cannot concentrate if I am in a cluttered space – I also need beautiful and organized spaces! It’s a blessing and a curse and leads to more projects at times than more practical things on my to-do list. I’m so happy you shared this with us.
Taralynn says
Thank you so much 😊
